    Description

    New York's World's Fair Travel Poster (Grinnell Litho.Co., 1939). Poster (20" X 30").
Exploding with energy and optimism, this spirited poster set the tone for a forward-looking New York World's Fair in 1939. A "guide girl' in crisp blue enthusiastically waves visitors onward in front of the signature structures of the fair, the Trylon and Perisphere. Because the fair was staged during the difficult latter years of the Depression, promoters did their best to imbue a sense of impending prosperity and better days ahead. The designer of this piece, Albert Staehle (1899-1974), was an illustrator made famous by his "Elsie the Cow" advertisements for Borden's milk, and the "Smokey the Bear" character for the National Forest Service. There is a light horizontal crease towards the bottom, a minor top left corner bend, and a mild tear from the right border into the background. Rolled, Very Fine.

    Estimate: $600 - $1,200.
