    Description

The Saint in London (RKO, 1939). One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the collection of William E. Rea.
When Leslie Charteris created his character Simon Templar (whose initials were ST- and hence, The Saint), he never realized he was creating one of the most unique characters to star in one of the longest running series in the movies and television as well. Based very loosely on Robin Hood, Templar (George Sanders) steals not from the rich, but from the criminals and then he repays their victims -- after keeping a small percentage as his "recovery" fee. We don't see many one sheets from this film, and this particular example displays very nicely after minor restoration. Touchup was applied to missing paper in the top left corner, a chip in the top right corner, pinholes in the bottom corners and borders, and a tear and chip in the left border and "Saint." From the collection of William E. Rea. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
