My Man Godfrey (Universal, 1936). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Swedish One Sheet (27.5" X 39.5"). Fuchs Artwork.Original paper from this classic comedy is always in scarce supply, especially this beautiful Swedish one sheet. A favorite among several "All Time Greatest Comedy" lists, this charming story of a screwball prank-gone-wrong features stellar performances by leads William Powell and Carole Lombard, as well as supporting actors Mischa Auer and Alice Brady, who all create a kind of nutty chemistry perfect for this dizzy comedy. In fact, they were nominated for Academy Awards in all four acting categories, a first in Oscar history, alongside Gregory La Cava for Best Director and screenwriters Eric Hatch and Morrie Ryskind for Best Writing. Brilliantly colored, Fuchs' illustration perfectly captures the dynamic between Powell and Lombard with an eye catching, and eyebrow raising, design. There were a few tears in the lower left corner, a lift in the upper right corner, and staining with a crease in the upper left corner. Noticeable restoration has addressed these issues.
