The Jazz Singer (Warner Bros., 1927). Fine+ on Linen. Pre-War Australian Daybill (15" X 40").
Using their Vitaphone sound-on-disc system, Warner Bros. produced the first feature-length film with synchronized music and speech with 1927's The Jazz Singer. The film is now famous for its pivotal role in the history of the film industry, and upon its release it was an exciting revelation for filmgoers seeing someone speak on film for the first time. This particular Australian daybill for The Jazz Singer is quite rare, and it is being offered here at Heritage for the first time. Prior to restoration, the poster displayed edge and fold wear, creases, extra folds, and scuffs. There were chips mostly in the borders, as well as a chip in the text below the title and another chip in the body of Al Jolson's image. The background area below Jolson's feet has been touched up, and there were a few tears including small tears in the title. Touchup has been applied to most of these issues, and the borders and imprint area have been airbrushed. Slight smudges and scuffs are still visible, but the poster is in nice condition considering its age and scarcity.
