    Description

Show Boat (General Film Distribution, 1936). British Crown (12.5" X 20").
This was the second of three adaptations of Kern and Hammerstein's huge Broadway hit. Director James Whale considered this musical to be his favorite film in his career. Irene Dunne and Allan Jones may star as a naive riverboat captain's daughter and a charming gambler, but it's Paul Robeson who steals the show with his soulful, iconic rendition of the classic "Ol' Man River." This British poster is one of the few that prominently features Robeson due to the racial prejudice of the era, even giving him second billing above Allan Jones. This Heritage first also sports the best image of him, and shows edge wear with small tears and pinholes in the corners. There is slight paper loss in the upper left and lower right corners and a chip reattached with archival tape on the verso at the bottom left. The side borders have a slight trim, but the interior of this colorful poster is unaffected by any flaws. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
