    Description

    Moon Over Miami (20th Century Fox, 1941). Fine+ on Linen. Three Sheet (41.5" X 79.5") Style A.
Presented at Heritage for only the second time, this highly-coveted three sheet features a stunning pin-up illustration of Betty Grable and her famous legs. The levity of this picture was much needed at the time, as World War II loomed on America's horizon. Grable was on her way to becoming 20th Century-Fox's biggest star, a position she would enjoy for a decade, along with being the highest paid actress in Hollywood. And, in a bold move for the time, Grable had her highly marketable legs insured for a million dollars. There is a bit of mystery surrounding the poster's knockout illustration -- its creator is rumored to be either Alberto Vargas or McClelland Barclay, both skilled pin-up artists and both active in 20th Century Fox's poster design department at the time of this campaign. Regardless, the beauty of this piece is undeniable, and it would make a magnificent addition to any poster collection. It looks gorgeous after professional conservation addressed fold wear and separations, mild creases, and some small tears and chips. Also addressed was a chip a the top of the vertical fold and parts of the black background have been airbrushed. There was an approximately 0.5" - 1" trim along the edges of the poster that has been replaced during restoration, and there is a post-conservation paper lift in the right border that has not been addressed. Betty Grable's sultry image is as stunning as ever now and is sure to be a prime display piece.
