Description
Gold Diggers of 1933 (Warner Brothers, 1933). Half Sheet (22" X 28").Never offered by Heritage before is this poster for one of the greatest Depression era musicals ever made. Adapted from the 1919 Broadway play by Avery Hopwood, it's the story of a young man from a wealthy family (Dick Powell) who bankrolls a struggling Broadway show and finds true love in the process. A fabulous production, spotlighting the masterful choreography of the inimitable Busby Berkeley, this is the movie that introduced the songs "We're in the Money," "Remember My Forgotten Man" and "Pettin' in the Park" (a notoriously pre-Code number). One of the most notable of the Depression-era musicals, paper from this film is in extremely high demand on the rare occasions it does surface. A golden opportunity for collectors, this star-studded half sheet shines with images of Dick Powell, Ginger Rogers, Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, Warren William, Guy Kibbee and more, all against a bevy of dancing girls! Professional restoration has addressed pinholes in the borders, a small chip at the top edge, and a few tears into the background. There was also a tear from the border into the leftmost chorus girl, and the borders have been airbrushed. Fine+ on Linen.
