Sweden Travel Poster (Swedish Traffic Association, Stockholm, 1936). Full-Bleed Poster (24.5" X 39").
Swedish artist Anders Beckman (1907-1967) founded Beckman's School in 1939 dedicated to advertising skills, fashion and illustration. He became well regarded for his travel posters, and received esteemed commissions over the years, including designs for the Swedish Pavilion at the 1939 World's Fair in New York, and WWII propaganda/ military posters. Here, Beckman brings to life his native country, "An Unspoiled Mecka for Tourists." A woman dons traditional dress and holds a lur, an instrument dating back to the Bronze Age. Found throughout the Nordic countries, lurs made of wood have been used in more recent centuries as war instruments and by farmers and milk maids for cattle calling. Originals of this poster are quite scarce, and this one displays rich color as vibrant as the day it was printed eight decades ago. The poster receives the highest grade possible for a work mounted on linen. Very Fine+ on Linen.
