Square Treatment for All (Mather, 1923). Motivational Poster (28" X 41.5"). Miscellaneous.
This is a rare, and certainly one of the first, "Constructive Organization Posters," printed by the Mather Company in Chicago. These posters began in 1923 when a Mather Company salesman, Charles Howard Rosenfeld, took the idea to Charles Mather, who worked for the family firm. The poster were to focus on giving workers incentives to work better and harder. They were placed on office and factory walls, inspiring workers to do their job better. The posters were sold by Mather by subscription, and more than 300 different images were produced between 1923 and 1929. This poster is dated 1923, making this one of the first produced by the company. There are only minor edge wear with small tears, and some punch holes for mounting in the top and bottom borders. There is a small tear and paper loss in the bottom left border not affecting the image, and a small pencil number, "16," in the bottom left border. Whether this refers to the poster's order of printing is not certain and would need research. As the poster was unused, the colors are extremely bright and fresh. The small horizontal creasing in the left center occurred during the printing process. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Rolled, Fine+.
