Description

Rudolph Valentino (Paramount, 1924). Very Fine. Cut Signature & Photo (4.5" X 4.5" & 8" X 10"). PSA & Beckett LOA.
This lot includes a cut signature signed and dated by the original silent screen Latin lover, Rudolph Valentino. The actor writes in black ink, "Cordially yours, Rudolph Valentino / Strand Theatre / Aug. 16, 1924." Valentino would die just two years and eight days later at the age of 31. Together with a gelatin silver double-weight matte finish photograph from A Sainted Devil, which was released the same year the autograph was signed. Valentino was a silent film icon of the 1920s whose smoldering charisma and exotic screen presence in films like The Sheik made him Hollywood's first great romantic idol. His sudden death sparked mass hysteria and cemented his legacy as a symbol of passion, mystery, and the power of early movie stardom. The cut signature exhibits some toning around the edges from age and previous matting. The photo has a pinhole in the upper border, silvering at the corners, and border and edge wear.
