    Description

Picture Play and Metropolitan Magazines (Street and Smith, April, 1931 and New Metropolitan Fiction, June, 1923). Magazines (2) (Multiple Pages, 8.5" X 11.5"). Miscellaneous.
This lot includes a fun April, 1931, issue of Picture Play with Janet Gaynor on the cover, painted by Modest Stein. Inside are full page ads for Rango, Fifty Million Frenchmen, Father's Son, and Trader Horn. There are full page black and white and sepia photos for Ruth Chatterton, Marian Marsh, Elissa Landi, Marlene Dietrich, Richard Arlen, Richard Barthelmess, Catherine Dale Owen, Lois Moran, John Boles, Rita LeRoy, Robert Armstrong, Genevieve Tobin, and the best photo you'll ever find of Zasu Pitts by Elmer Fryer. This issue has page 45 missing, and cuts on pages 47, 49, and 89. There are pencil remarks on the front and back covers, and tape on the spine. The back cover has a small corner chip, and a few pages are stained in the bottom border. The majority of the pages are in excellent condition other than some mild edge wear. The second item in the lot is a scarce issue of Metropolitan, June, 1923. This was primarily a fiction magazine, but always included some photos of film stars. It has a stunning painting on the cover of Gladys Walton by Leo Sielke, Jr. Ms. Walton was the infamous girlfriend of Al Capone for over 10 years! There are some beautiful sepia full page photos for Ula Sharon, Virginia Magee, Mary Astor, Naomi Johnson, and Kitty Flynn. Lots of great vintage ads for Chevrolet, Listerine, etc. This magazine has some loose pages, cuts in pages 91 and 93, chips and edge fading on the covers, and chipping from some page edges due to brittleness. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Very Good+.
