    Description

Marilyn Monroe Portrait Still by Andre Dienes (1945). Still (8" X 10"). Vintage black and white, double weight, glossy still. Before she was Marilyn Monroe, she was Norma Jean Baker, one of many aspiring models and actresses living in and around Los Angeles. Fortunately for Baker, something about her caught the eye of photographer Andre Dienes, who shot the young woman extensively starting in 1945, leading to some of her earliest magazine covers, and, eventually, to a starring career in motion pictures. Offered here is a very rare still from Dienes' personal collection, dating from these early sessions. It has his stamp, as well as a "File Copy" stamp, on the reverse. A charming image of a future superstar posing with a baby goat, it has some gloss wear in the top and bottom borders, a crease in the bottom right, a small tear in the top right, and a paper clip dent in the top left, but these are minor flaws that do not in anyway detract from this rare and historic beauty. The lot also includes a sheet of other prints from the same shoot, and color photos of two of the magazine covers that resulted. It's rare that one gets a glimpse of such an iconic stars in the days well before they achieved fame; don't pass this one up! Very Fine-.
