Description
Marilyn Monroe Life Magazine (Life Magazine, 1952). Point of Purchase Poster (27" X 34.5").For Marilyn Monroe enthusiasts and collectors, it just doesn't get much better than this. In March 1952, Monroe had just become the talk of Hollywood for her anticipated standout performance in Don't Bother to Knock, for her first date with baseball legend Joe DiMaggio and also for the news about her nude appearance in a men's calendar. That story had just come to light and Fox studios was trying to decide how to handle the situation. Monroe herself suggested that she just admit to posing for the pictures in 1949 when she was trying to pay her rent. It was the stuff that made headlines and Life Magazine came calling. The following month, and for the April 7, 1952 edition, the magazine gave Monroe the cover shot and the issue immediately became one of their highest selling in the company's history. The photo was done by Philippe Halsman and captured Monroe at her sexy and seductive best. Halsman would become one of Life Magazine's most prolific photographers, setting a record of being the photographer for 101 Life covers. It was Monroe's first cover for the magazine but certainly wouldn't be her last. This poster was created by Life Magazine to place in windows wherever the magazine was sold. It has had some very minor wear to the edges on the left and right sides that have had some slight color touchup. The poster itself was never folded and is in fantastic condition. Very Fine on Linen.
