Grand Canyon: Hotel El Tovar (American Lithographic Co.,1906). Travel Poster (20.75" X 39.75") Louis Akin Artwork.
One of the few famous Harvey House hotels still in operation today, the El Tovar Hotel opened its doors in 1905 as a destination resort for patrons who wished to see the beauties of nature while living in the lap of luxury. Situated just twenty feet from Grand Canyon's southern rim, this rustic getaway's breathtaking view attracted numerous sightseers and nature enthusiasts, and even hosted President Theodore Roosevelt twice in 1911 and 1913. Widely admired now for his landscapes of the Arizona wilderness and paintings of the Hopi tribe, artist Louis Akin actually lived in the hotel for a time, creating many pieces based off of his majestic surroundings. Printed just a year after El Tovar opened for business, this beautiful poster has slight edge wear, mild creases, a couple of pinholes in the background, and some small chips in the borders. There are a few tears from the borders extending into the interior at the top, right side, and bottom. Some of these issues have been addressed with professional restoration. The poster also shows toning and a slight bit of color fading, but this does little to affect its gloriously detailed image. Fine+ on Linen.

    Estimate: $3,000 - $6,000.
