Graf Zeppelin (Erasmusdruck, Berlin, 1937). German Travel Poster (23" X 33.5") "Graf Zeppelin, Hamburg-Amerika Linie."This original travel poster was designed by Ottomar Anton (1895-1976) depicting the route of "The Graf" from Friedrichshafen to Rio de Janeiro and terminating in Buenos Aires. Named after the German pioneer of airships, Ferdinand von Zeppelin who was a count (Graf) in the nobility, the craft made 590 flights over the course of its service life (1928-1937). The hydrogen filled, rigid airship was operated by a crew of forty and could carry twenty passengers. It was scrapped in 1940 during WWII for fighter plane parts. Imposing and mesmerizing, "The Graf" floats across the Atlantic Ocean on this rare stone litho poster. Touchup to pinholes in the corners, a diagonal crease at the top right, and several small creases throughout. Very Fine- on Linen.
