French World War I Propaganda Poster (1918). French Affiche (31" X 47") "Un dernier effort et on l'aura" (One last try and we'll have it.").
Published in 1918 just after the U.S. entered WWI, this poster was designed by Eugene Courboin (b.1851), a well known French illustrator of the Art Nouveau period. He specialized in book illustrations, often printed in the hand-colored, stenciled, style known as Pochoir. For this WWI propaganda poster, Courboin depicts American soldiers and a French infantryman scaling a rock in close pursuit of the enemy, signified by the imperial eagle and Iron Cross of Germany. An original and quite rare stone litho poster, it has received the benefit of professional restoration. Touchup addressed pinholes in the left and top border, a tear and small hole in the right border, a tear in the top left border, and small hole in the left border and right border plus a tear. Printer: Imp. Cornille & Serre, Paris. Very Fine- on Linen.
