    Description

Cinèma Pathé Advertisement (Pathé, c. 1909). Horizontal French Grande (46.25" X 61.5") Adrien Barrère Artwork.
A premier advertising artist of the early 1900s, former law and medical student Adrien Barrère got his start creating caricature artwork for concerts held at Parisian cafes and met with almost immediate popularity. Soon, his distinct style caught the attention of Pathé Cinemas, who became his biggest client. Here, he proclaims the theatre's family appropriate entertainment with the text, "All lead their children there!" Barrère also touts the sophisticated technology of moving pictures with the images of Europe's most influential leaders, like France's President Fallieres, King Edward the VII of England, Russia's Czar Nicholas and Empress Alexandra, Spain's King Alfonso XIII, King Leopold II of Belgium, and King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy. A rare piece, this stone litho poster is in excellent condition for its over one hundred years of age. Though backed on linen, there has been no touchup to pinholes in the borders, small scattered stains, and repaired tears in the bottom border that are still visible. Very Fine on Linen.
