Description

Cinema Arts (Cinema Magazine, June, 1937, Vol. 1, # 1). Magazine (Multiple Pages, 11.5" X 14"). Miscellaneous.
Here is an excellent copy of the elusive Vol. 1, # 1, of perhaps the most lavishly produced film magazine ever printed. This oversized magazine produced over 100 pages a month of top quality portraits by some of the top photographers on either coast, and covers by collectible art deco artist, Jano Fabry. With costs that must have been astronomical, it's little wonder that only a handful of issues were completed, and this one is a beauty!. The cover by Jaro Fabry is a fanciful profile of Greta Garbo with her face in a clever use of half shadow in keeping with her demand for privacy. Inside are full page ads for This is My Affair, A Star is Born, The Prince and the Pauper, The Toast of New York, etc. etc. There are great articles with photos about Lost Horizon, caricatures of top stars like Clark Gable and Jean Harlow by William Sharp, articles on Astaire and Rogers, and more. There is an additional full page Jaro Fabry rendering, this one of Marlene Dietrich, and a full page color photo of Myrna Loy. Lot of vintage ads done in the high style of the magazine. An unrestored magazine that displays signs of use. May include light edge wear with some minor corner bends, light spine wear with clear tape along the spine edges, and surface smudges and scratches on the covers. There are a few pages inside with foxing and small stains. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Fine/Very Fine.
