    Description

Chicago (New York Central Lines, c. 1930). Fine+ on Linen. Travel Poster (27" X 41") Leslie Darrell Ragan Artwork.
Leslie Ragan is best remembered for his artwork commissioned by railroad companies, featuring his expressive use of light whether it be within the strict lines of architecture or the flowing movement of clouds. Ragan did a series of posters for the New York Central Railroad, which had grown from its formation in 1853 to connecting New York City, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and St. Louis by the 1930s. This poster for Chicago was the first of the series featuring an image of Michigan Avenue as seen from Grant Park. The Millennium Monument is pictured in its original location in Grant Park, however the monument has since been moved and can now be found in Wrigley Square. Professionally restored, this poster no longer shows pinholes, a few creases, small tears into the interior, and chips at the edges, in addition to paper loss in the lower left corner. Also addressed were a couple of instances of surface wear in the lower image. The borders and black background have been airbrushed, but the interior of the image remains in great condition. Please note that this poster will be shipped flat.
