DescriptionMary of Scotland (RKO, 1936). Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41"). From the Mike Kaplan Collection.
Not offered in over a decade, this beautiful poster features excellent portraits of Katharine Hepburn and Fredric March in the rich colors of stone lithography. Adapted from the 1933 play by Maxwell Anderson and directed by John Ford, the picture featured great production values and a humanizing from Hepburn, garnering sympathy for the ill-fated queen who is normally portrayed as a villain. Unfortunately, the length of the film and the necessarily tragic ending proved unpopular among audiences, and the production led to Hepburn's unfair labeling as "Boxoffice Poison." Professionally restored, corrections have been made to light fold wear, minor fold separations, pinholes, and a couple of small tears. The title has been touched up and parts of the borders have been airbrushed, making this already wonderful poster look even better.
Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
