Description

Marlene Dietrich by Alfred Eisenstaedt (1929). Eisenstaedt Signed Portrait Photo (16" X 20").
Vintage gelatin silver, double weight, glossy photo of a sly smiling Marlene Dietrich by Life Magazine photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt at the 1929 Foreign Press Ball in the Hotel Aldon, Berlin. In what is known as the "Dietrich silhouette," the German born actress commonly wore men's clothing to perpetuate her signature androgynous appearance that spanned decades beyond her acting years and into her stage performances. Eisenstaedt was a established photographer at the time, famously taking pictures of the first meeting between Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini in Italy and the V-J Day in Times Square photo of an American sailor kissing a nurse. This excellent photo of Dietrich was produced in a large format, and is signed and dated by Eisenstaedt in the lower right border. The photo itself shows light edge wear and the faintest of surface blemishes. Verso: Photographers ink stamp. Very Fine/Near Mint.

Several people contacted me who felt similarly about the way the auction was handled. At this point in my career I'm much more concerned with the respectful professionalism in all forms when it comes to my life's work. I truly appreciate your efforts in t
