    Description

    Marihuana (Roadshow Attractions, 1936). One Sheet (28" X 42").
Although the film was about the evils of smoking marijuana, the artwork on the poster would lead one to believe the film was actually about heroin. Directed by Dwain Esper, and written by Esper's wife, Hildegarde Stadie, this anti-drug propaganda film tells the story of a good girl named Burma who goes to a party, smokes some dope, and winds up going skinny-dipping with her girl friends. When one of the girls drowns, the drug dealers come up with a plan to hide the body. Continuing the downward spiral, Burma ends up pregnant and unmarried. She is forced to give the child up for adoption and become a drug dealer. Unlike the 1950s reissue posters, which use a very similar image, this scarce one sheet is far more defined and colorful, and features larger blocked lettering in the lower yellow box. It has been professionally restored to address a small tear in the "H" of the title, a small tear in the woman's neck, a minor tear and chip in the left border, and a chip in the right border at the lower fold. The borders and imprint area have been airbrushed. Very Fine- on Linen.
