Description

    Madcap Madge (Triangle, 1917). Three Sheet (42" X 80").
In remarkable condition for its nearly one hundred years, this stone litho three sheet features a playful image of silent film star Olive Thomas and the tagline (spoiler alert!) "The escapades of a vivacious school girl in Palm Beach society who wins the man of her choice and incidentally saves her father from ruin." A former "Ziegfeld Follies" girl, Thomas went on to make a significant number of films in just a few short years, including Youthful Folly, The Flapper, and Everybody's Sweetheart. She also posed for the famed pin-up artist Alberto Vargas, and married Jack Pickford, brother of screen star Mary Pickford. Unfortunately, her career was cut short when she died tragically at the age of twenty-six after accidentally ingesting mercury. A Heritage first in this format, the three sheet has had restoration to address a few small pinholes in the image area, some tears from the left border into the background, a small tear in the lower right border, a tear in Olive Thomas's image with a minor chip, and applied touchup to the folds. There were also small slivers of paper loss in the upper border, small chips in the vertical folds, and a chip in the left border. Very Fine- on Linen.
