    Description

    M (Foremco, 1933). German Language U.S. Premiere Window Card (14" X 22.5").
One of the finest and most important films to come out of Germany, Peter Lorre gives a chilling performance as a deranged child murderer whose crimes are so heinous that he is hunted both by the police and the criminal underground. Directed by Fritz Lang, this picture takes inspiration from the real-life crimes of Peter Kürten, a child killer who was on the loose in Düsseldorf at the time this picture was made. Many consider this to be the high point of Lorre's career, and see this as an important precursor to the film noir genre that Lang would help inaugurate once he emigrated to America in 1934. Although the picture already had an English dub, with Lorre reprising his role, the American premiere showed Lang's original German film with English subtitles. This limited run lasted for two weeks at the Mayfair theatre, until Paramount picked up distribution with the dubbed translation. This incredibly rare window card comes from those original showings, and has all of its text, from pricing to description, in German. The first of its kind sold at Heritage, this card shows edge wear, staining, scuffing, minor tears and bits of paper loss in the borders. There is a small gouge in the title and a couple of pinholes in the imprint area. Fine.
