    Description

Lon Chaney in The Road to Mandalay (MGM, 1926). Very Fine. Autographed Photo (9.5" X 12.5").
Lon Chaney and his favorite director, Tod Browning, came together once again on yet another picture in which Chaney plays Singapore Joe, a disfigured criminal with a heart of gold, as he sacrifices his life so his daughter (Lois Moran) might find happiness. The collaborations between director Tod Browning and Chaney were, in many ways, the high points of both men's careers, and the ten pictures they made together are universally regarded as some of Chaney's very best. Inscribed and signed "To Our Handsome 'Joe,' Sincerely, Lon Chaney," this vintage silver gelatin, double weight, satin finish photo displays such indications of handling as slight edge wear, minute surface lifts at the edges, faint toning, and light creases, one of which has minor touchup applied. There is a bit of graphite writing on the verso. The edges are slightly rough, but this most likely due to production.

    Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
