Description

Leni Riefenstahl as The Dancer in Ways to Strength and Beauty (OEFA-Film, 1925). German Lobby Cards (3) (9.5" X 11.6").
Vintage gelatin silver, double weight, matte finish photos. You'll find very few artifacts remaining of this mid 1920's "naturist" documentary. To be able to offer three original country-of-origin lobby cards in this high of a grade (or any grade!) is very exciting. Especially those showing a twenty-three year old dancer, Leni Riefenstahl (that's the bare-breasted Ms. Riefenstahl dancing to the right of the bathers). Most of Germany was caught up in the naturist moment and this film was the very beginnings of the intense German obsession for a racial pureness and physical beauty that would culminate in Adolf Hitler's perverted vision of that ideal a mere decade later. Riefenstahl actually began her career as an interpretive dancer, performing throughout Europe with Max Reinhardt, who discovered her. Of historical note, Riefenstahl became the first dancer to dance alone on the stage of his Deutsches Theater for one night of every week, creating a sensation. Don't overlook the historical importance and just the sheer beauty of these extremely rare country-of-origin lobby cards. One of the items has punch holes in the left border, and small creases in top border. Very Fine-.
