Laurel and Hardy in The Chimp (MGM, 1932). One Sheet (27" X 41").
One sheet posters for Laurel and Hardy's comedy short subjects are extremely rare and Heritage has only sold a handful. This beautiful stone litho poster for The Chimp is making its first appearance in a Heritage auction. The comic duo get up to their usual antics in this short subject, this time playing a couple of circus performers out of both a job and a paycheck when their show closes. Instead, the big top's broke proprietors pay off the duo by giving them the flea circus and Ethel, the dancing chimp. Things go from bad to worse when the jealous landlord of their boarding house and his wife, also named Ethel, get mixed into the action. This one sheet is looking great after professional restoration mended pinholes, paper lifts, and edge wear with small tears and bits of paper loss. There was a tear from the right border into Hardy's suitcase with some chips. Some of the above issues are not fully addressed, such as a few paper lifts and bits of paper loss, and there is a post-restoration scratch in the upper border. The poster also has some unobtrusive stains that have not received any touchup, and the linen has been trimmed nearly to the borders. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $6,000 - $12,000.
