DescriptionLa Dame aux Camille (Le Film d'Art, 1912). French Grande (47" X 63").
Based on the novel by the younger Alexandre Dumas, the son of Alexandre Dumas of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo fame, André Calmettes and Louis Mercanton's La Dame aux Camille features acclaimed French stage actress, Sarah Bernhardt, reprising her famous theatrical role as the ill-fated courtesan. It's more than a little difficult to believe that the beautiful Bernhardt was 69 years old when filming this picture, retaining her elegance and grace long after most actresses would have retired. One of more than twenty film adaptations of Dumas' most famous work, this 1912 production met praise from audiences still enthralled by Bernhardt's considerable talents, encouraging the actress to continue in the film industry despite her considerably unfavorable view of the medium. Robert Kastor provides a beautiful pastel portrait of the leading lady in this original French poster, which Heritage is thrilled to offer for the very first time. The poster had a few chips in the borders, some minor fold chips, and two tears extending from the upper edge into the text. There was also a tear from the lower border into the background, a few tears in the right border into the background, two tears near the center fold in the image, and some vertical tears in the horizontal fold. Fine+ on Linen.
Estimate: $3,000 - $6,000.
