    Kongo (MGM, 1932). Very Good/Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 40.75") Style C.
One of the little known horror films of the 1930s, this remake of Lon Chaney's West of Zanzibar, found Walter Huston as the depraved and sadistic ruler of a region in Africa. There, he is worshipped as a living God and he keeps the few local white people enslaved and dreams of the day he is able to take his revenge on the man who stole his wife and crushed his spine leaving him in a wheelchair. MGM director William Cowan went well beyond the depravity of the Chaney Sr. film by depicting more sadism and torture in this movie. Any paper on this title is exceptionally rare and this one sheet features extraordinary art of Huston and co-star Lupe Velez and is a Heritage first time offer. Skillfully conserved, this lovely stone litho one sheet no longer shows edge and fold wear, fold separations, and pinholes. There was tearing into the interior and scattered chips in the borders and printing, including in Velez's and Huston's images. Both the borders and much of the blue background has been airbrushed, in addition to some of the letters in the title and credits. Very Good/Fine on Linen.
