Description

Kohler Air Travel (c.1931). Poster (18.5" X 27.5"). "Detroit to Grand Rapids/ Milwaukee/The Northwest."
Established in 1929, Kohler Aviation Company began that year operating its "bridge across Lake Michigan" flights connecting Milwaukee and Muskegon. The route took less than ninety minutes, as opposed to traveling by land for 12+ hours. The open-cockpit Loening C-2 Air Yacht amphibian aircraft chosen for the route could accommodate six passengers. In 1931, Detroit was added to the line, and train connections enabled travelers to reach as far as New York. There is a top right corner chip, three rounded corners, small chips along the edges, a faint smudge in the title, smudging in the top and right border, and a bit of touchup between the "l" of "Central" and the "M" of "Michigan." Original artwork by Edward A. Vollmer Jr.. Fine+ on Cardstock.
