    Description

King Kong vs. Godzilla (Toho, 1962). Horizontal Japanese STB (20.5" X 57.25").
Though the third entry in Toho's long line of Japanese daikaiju monster films, this movie has some distinctly American origins. In 1960, the legendary stop motion animator for King Kong, Willis O'Brien, dreamed up a whole new adventure for Skull Island's colossus: King Kong Meets Frankenstein. Envisioning an epic battle between the ape and an animal-based version Frankenstein raging across the San Francisco skyline, O'Brien approached producer John Beck to shop around his idea. Unfortunately, many studios deemed the tedious stop-motion process as too expensive. Toho, however, loved the story. To celebrate their 30th anniversary and launch a comeback for their most famous monster, the studio replaced Frankenstein with Godzilla, and created a box office hit. A first time offer from Heritage, this extremely rare poster features a tie-in advertisement for Bireley's fruit sodas, something not seen in other posters for the film. This country of origin piece looks fantastic after touchup to the folds and small tears at the edges, with a couple of tears into the image. Very Fine- on Linen.
