    Description

    Jezebel (Warner Brothers, 1940s). First Post-War Italian 2 - Foglio (39" X 55").
Film posters done by the Italian masters of design, Ballester, Capitani, Brini, and Luigi Martinati, during the war torn era of the late 1930's are a difficult group to obtain. They were never in abundance, due to the instant collectability of the fine art work itself, and the high attrition rate of a country at war. This wonderful find has us marveling at the brilliant artistry of Martinati's magnificent rendition of the final scene of an Oscar winning performance by Bette Davis. With her eyes turned to the heavens as she faces sure death from yellow fever, she cradles a dying Henry Fonda in her arms, in fulfillment of the promise she has just made to Fonda's wife..."Help me make myself clean again, as you are clean." Chances to obtain a true art triumph such as this are few and far between. Prior to professional restoration the poster had fold wear and crossfold separations, and a tear in the top that extends into the field. Very Fine- on Linen.
