Bluebook Magazine Lot (McCall Corporation, 1954-55). Magazines (5) (Multiple Pages, 8.5" X 1"). James Bond.
Pulp magazine Bluebook's 70 year run as the sibling magazine to Redbook, was at one time, considered as one of the "Big Four" pulp magazines along with Adventure, Argosy, and Short Stories. Aimed at both male and female readers, the magazine published a long line of famous authors, such as Edgar Rice Burroughs, Agatha Christie, Zane Grey, Robert Heinlein, Max Brand, and Lemuel De Bra to name a few. This lot contains the very first U.S. appearance of Ian Fleming's superspy James Bond in Live and Let Die in the May 1954 issue. The story appears almost a year before the first American book edition, and one month after its original British publication. The story is highlighted with the excellent illustration by John Walter on the cover and two color illustrations within the story. Also included in this lot are the August 1954 and January/July/September 1955 issues that contain articles such as Baseball's Better than Ever, Who Believes in Flying Saucers?, Why We Won't be Bombed, One for the Road, Steve Allen, and Angler's Almanac, and many more. Unrestored magazines that display signs of use. May include light edge or spine wear, slight spine separations, loose pages, very minor paper loss, dust shadows and toning due to age, pinholes, creases, or unobtrusive stains. The August 1954 issue has a loose page. Please see full-color, enlargeable image above for more details. The January 1955 cover by Frank McCarthy, and August 1954 cover by Isa Barnett. Overall Grade: Fine/Very Fine.
