    Description

It Happened One Night (Columbia, 1934). One Sheet (27" X 41").
Considered one of the great romantic comedies, this classic was directed by Frank Capra and tells the tale of a pampered socialite (Claudette Colbert) who tries to get out from under her father's thumb, and falls in love with a roguish reporter (Clark Gable). The plot was based on the magazine story Night Bus by muckraking journalist and author, Samuel Hopkins Adams. Paper from this film, the first to sweep all of the major categories at the Academy Awards, is exceedingly scarce. Collectors will be hard pressed to find more beautiful images of Gable and Colbert than those filling this poster. Skillful restoration has addressed a tear into Claudette Colbert's face and paper loss into her hair. All of the borders and a majority of the lower half of the poster has been replaced, including all of the text. Please be advised that a significant portion of this poster is a very well done recreation, produced with reference photos to the greatest possible accuracy. However, the majority of the beautiful stone litho image is intact. Fair on Linen.
