Description

It Came from Outer Space (Universal International, 1953). Title Lobby Card, Lobby Cards (6), and 9th Card (11" X 14") 3-D Style.
Based on a story by Ray Bradbury, It Came from Outer Space questions how Earth would handle an alien threat. This classic sci-fi film was revolutionary in its use of 3-D technology to compete with the growing interest in television, as well as advancing special effects and make-up techniques to create the alien invaders. This unique lot includes the terrific title card (touchup to borders and pinholes in the field), six scene cards, and a highly sought after "9th card." During the 1950s, many of the lobby card sets issued by the studios for their horror and science-fiction films were created without scenes showing the monster. The studios felt that if the monster were shown, no one would buy a ticket and see the film. You can imagine how disappointing this was for the fans. So, in the late 1980s, a set of cards were produced from several of the seminal sci-fi classics of the fifties called the "9th" card. The card would display the creature or monster that was not featured at all in the original set. These cards have become collector's items today and sometimes sell for more than the original scenes. This one is in great condition, and the other scene cards may have had touchup to pinholes in the borders, touchup to a removed snipe area, and/or a tear in the bottom border. Fine/Very Fine.
