Description

Invaders from Mars (20th Century Fox, 1953). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
In his direction of this landmark sci/fi classic, perhaps the first important one to be shot in full saturated color, William Cameron Menzies, winner of the first Oscar for Art Direction, showed what sheer talent and experience can do when faced with budget constraints. Using deceptively subtle minimalist sets and consistently shooting camera angles from a child's point of view, this film still provides chills for those watching it today, for anyone still in touch with their imagination. These lobby cards, a scarce complete set, are great examples of all that is right with the film. From Jimmy Hunt's frightened look staring at the giant green mutant humanoids on the title card, to scene after scene of the taut tension the film delivered, it's just a great set. Three cards have pinholes in the borders, two have a light smudge and stain, and the title card has a small chip in the top left border with small tears. From the collection of Wade Williams. Fine/Very Fine.
