Description

    Humoresque (Warner Brothers, 1946). Italian 4 - Foglio (55" X 78").
In this melodrama based on a Fannie Hurst novel, John Garfield and Joan Crawford are a concert violinist and his patron. Garfield has spent his life scratching his way up from poverty and preparing to be a world-class violinist. He finally succeeds when socialite and painfully neurotic Crawford takes him under her wing and gives him financial and emotional support. A tempestuous love affair unravels between the two, and her need to be first in his life, combined with his complete dedication to his art, causes heartbreak and tragedy. In perfect sync with the mood of the film, this breathtaking Italian poster depicts the stormy Crawford against a windswept seashore, no doubt battling her demons. Rendered by the gifted hands of renowned poster artist Luigi Martinati, this 4-foglio is extraordinarily rare and it's only the second Heritage has presented. The piece is far more beautiful than the other formats we've seen, and its remarkable condition is an added bonus. Professional touchup has been applied to the folds, a crossfold chip, a tear in a horizontal fold, a chip in the top border, a top horizontal misfold, and pinholes in the corners. An exceptional work of art and lovely homage to the incredibly talented Joan Crawford. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
