Description
The Wolf Man (Universal, 1941). Fine/Very Fine. Title Lobby Card (11" X 14").The Wolf Man, released in December 1941, became an instant classic and one of the most successful entries in Universal's new wave of horror films, firmly establishing Lon Chaney Jr. as the studio's leading horror star. Though he had previously appeared in Man Made Monster earlier that same year, it was this film that allowed Chaney to step out of his father's shadow, dropping the "Jr." from his name and continuing the legacy of the "Man of a Thousand Faces." With the help of Jack Pierce's masterful makeup, Chaney delivered a haunting and sympathetic performance that redefined the cinematic werewolf. He would go on to portray the Wolf Man in four subsequent films, making it the most enduring role of his career. This rare and striking title card sees Chaney above a truly bewildered Evelyn Ankers, the title treatment emblazed boldly in between them. In great shape for its 80-plus year age, the card is unrestored and imperfections include minor edge wear, slight corner bends, pinholes with pinhole chips and tears, some creases, smudges, and scuffs, minute stains, and border tears, the longest of which reaches approx. 1.75" in length to the left of Chaney's face. Additionally, there is a strip of paper tape and a strip of archival tape on the verso.
