    Description

The Walking Dead (Warner Bros., 1936). Very Fine on Linen. Italian 4 - Fogli (55.25" X 77.75") Luigi Martinati Artwork.
Among the best poster artists Italy has ever produced, Luigi Martinati created a clever and striking image for this large format poster, which is a first-time offering at Heritage. The film is a unique mix between a gangster picture and a horror flick, where Boris Karloff plays a wrongfully executed man who is revived by a scientist (played by Edmund Gwenn) and tries to discover why he was framed for murder. There were some parallels to Karloff's signature movie Frankenstein, including a lack of dialogue for Karloff's character. The actor demanded additional lines be written to differentiate the two roles so he could give a distinct performance to his new character. It's an interesting entry into the genre of horror movies, especially as it was one of the few directed by Michael Curtiz. This very rare 4 - fogli, one of two known copies, which is printed in stone litho, presented well even prior to professional corrections to slight fold wear and separation, pinholes, and to a few small tears and chips. The borders have been airbrushed, giving the poster a finished look ready for display.
