    Description

The Old Dark House (Universal, 1932). Lobby Card (11" X 14").
A dark stormy night, wind howling through the open windows, lights flickering in the rooms and and evil presence are the elements James Whale threw into his quintessential and aptly titled Old Dark House movie. This lobby card is considered the best from the set and one of only three scenes to depict Boris Karloff as the menacing butler Morgan from this Universal Horror classic and those other two cards are offered in this auction. Karloff was fresh from his roles as Frankenstein's Monster and The Mummy's Im-Ho-Tep when Whale tapped his new star to handle this ominous role. By this point, Boris didn't even need a first name and was simple billed on the posters as "Karloff"." Two pinholes in the center of the image and slight surface scuffs on Karloff's hand and in the background by his head are the only blemishes that keep this card from grading much higher. This card was authenticated by MP Grading and comes with a certificate. Very Fine+.
