Description
The Invisible Man (Universal, 1933). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X41") Style A Teaser, Gene Schwalm Artwork.Heritage is excited to offer this fresh to market copy of the very scarce style A teaser poster for one of Universal's top horror films. This magnificent poster was a companion piece to another copy Heritage sold for almost $275,000 over three years ago! Boris Karloff was the first choice for the role but didn't like the lack of "face time" on the big screen. Director James Whales chose Claude Rains for the "intelligent voice" after hearing Rains by accident in a screen test played from an adjoining room! Whale and special effects wizard John Fulton joined forces to produce the most truly amazing version of the classic H.G. Wells story. Prior to restoration, the poster had some fold wear with some extra horizontal folds. Also addressed was a small chip in the center of the poster below the nose, small chips and tears in the borders, and a tear from the upper border into the top of Rains' head. The poster had a snipe across the bottom and small pinholes. Professional touchup has been applied to all of the above to give it a stunning appearance. This rare poster is surely on the top of the list for any classic film poster collector! Thanks to being able to see a copy of the Universal Weekly, the in-house studio magazine dated August 12, 1933, we have correctly identified the artist for this amazing poster as Gene Schwalm. This artist from Universal Studios, also did the artwork for the 1931 Dracula style C one sheet.
