    Description

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Universal, 1923). Fine/Very Fine on Paper. Insert (14" X 36").
The finest of Lon Chaney's star-making roles was as Victor Hugo's hunchback bell-ringer, Quasimodo, in the classic Universal film from 1923. Along with his makeup, Chaney strapped on a hump weighing 40 pounds to his back, and wore a harness weighing another 30 pounds. The film helped set a standard for many later horror films, including Chaney's The Phantom of the Opera in 1925. As one of the top grossing silent films of all time, the film brought Universal Studios into the limelight. Heritage is pleased to present this scarce insert, one of only three known, for the first time. Professional conservation has corrected slight fold wear, edge wear, and pinholes. There were a few chips and small tears at the edges, as well as mild creases. Restoration has addressed a small section of reattached paper loss around the left side of the center fold. The borders have been airbrushed. Fine/Very Fine on Thin Masa Paper.
