    The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (UFA/Goldwyn, 1920/1921). Very Fine. German Lobby Card (9.25" X 12") & U.S. Photo (8" X 10.25").
Cesare the Somnambulist (Conrad Veidt) carries Jane Olsen (Lil Dagover) through the surreal scenery of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in this dark and moody photo. Director Robert Wiene's masterpiece of German Expressionist cinema has influenced countless filmmakers in the century since its first release, and critics and film scholars often cite it as the first actual horror movie. This oversized vintage silver gelatin, single-weight, matte finish photo is a beautiful representation of Wiene's extraordinary film tone. It has chips in this three of its corners, a few mild creases, and slight tears. There are some subtle scuffs in the image, and there are faint smudges mainly in the borders. There are also remnants of a bit of light graphite writing on the bottom border. The verso of the photo has some information written in pencil along with a couple of ink stamps and remnants from two stickers.
