DescriptionThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Goldwyn, 1921). Fine+. Lobby Card (11" X 14").
Featuring Conrad Veidt as the somnambulist Cesare, this beautiful card also displays the great sets which defined the German Expressionism movement. Although the film was released in Germany in 1920, it wasn't released in the U.S. until the following year. Director Robert Wiene created one of the most important films in the history of the cinema with this horror movie. The film starred Werner Krauss as the carnival showman who sends his somnambulist after a young woman in a wonderful and surreal tale. Though the real treat is the twist ending! This wonderful card has been restored to correct a left side upper and lower corner chip. The border have been airbrushed as well as a light airbrush on the verso. Interestingly, this card has been cut from the sheet in which all eight cards were printed, with a larger left border. What a rare opportunity to acquire a historic piece of cinema history.
Estimate: $15,000 - $30,000.
