Description
The Bride of Frankenstein (Universal, 1935). Fine/Very Fine. Window Card (14" X 22").For only the second time in over two decades of movie poster sales, Heritage is privileged to offer an original window card from Bride of Frankenstein. The rare sequel that surpasses its forebearer, the film defied expectations rather than merely coasting on the immense popularity of the original. Incorporating more of Mary Shelley's original novel and philosophy, Bride infused themes of gender and sexuality to the original parable of unchecked scientism with a twinge of dark comic camp. The result remains the most poignant and rewatchable film in the original generation of Universal Horror. The image itself is among the best promotional designs created for any film of the era, featuring Karloff's iconic visage, the potent tagline, and a whimsical Art Deco rendering of Elsa Lanchester. The only other poster to feature this image was the Style H Three Sheet, of which no examples are known to survive. The card once had a couple of pinholes, a minor tear at the bottom, and some surface wear in the interior, but these issues have been rendered invisible from professional restoration. Also addressed were a crease and staining in the imprint area and part of the upper image. The borders and imprint area have been airbrushed, while the colors of the image retain all of their original vibrancy. Thanks to these attentions, the card presents beautifully. This would be an elite addition to any advanced genre collection.
