Description
Son of Kong (RKO, 1933). Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Style B. Glenn Cravath Artwork. After the death of King Kong in New York City, showman Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) is hiding out from creditors and lawsuits related to the disastrous rampage of the giant ape through the city. Instead of facing his problems, he decides to escape from them, leaving the city with Captain Englehorn (Frank Reicher). Arriving in the East Indies, he meets Nils Helstrom - the disgraced ship captain who provided him with the map to Skull Island in the first place. Helstrom, in a drunken rage, kills Mr. Petersen, the owner of a traveling tent show, burning down the tent and leaving his daughter, Hilda Petersen, homeless and fatherless. When the ship leaves, once again for Skull Island, with Denham, Captain Englehorn and Helstrom, Hilda stows away and once discovered, accuses the disgraced Dutchman of killing her father, leading to an uneasy alliance. After a mutiny by the crew, the small group arrives on Skull Island where they are repelled by the villagers and flee to the other side of the island, where they meet Kiki, the son of Kong. Locating a hidden cave, they steal a jewel from the forehead of an idol, and the exotic island begins quaking and sinking. Helstrom is killed, but Kiki saves Denham, who still has the valuable jewel as they head home on a steamer that finds the stranded group in a skiff in the sea. Rushed into production after the success of King Kong, the film was shot in only a few weeks with a reduced schedule for the animated effects by Willis O'Brien. It is loved by fans (including this writer) and highly regarded, despite its quick production. This rare poster has light touchup to pinholes and small splits, minute spots within the image area and small chips as well as light fold wear. Thanks to these efforts, the poster displays wonderfully and is sure to please any collector of the 8th Wonder of the World.
