Description

Son of Frankenstein (Universal, 1939). Jumbo Window Card (22" X 28").
Son of Frankenstein was the third in the Universal Frankenstein series, and featured Boris Karloff in his final appearance as the monster. The horror cycle for the studio had begun to run dry by the late 1930s until Universal hit upon the idea of releasing their two major hits, Dracula and Frankenstein in a double bill, bringing movie-goers to the theaters in droves. Thus they were ready to try a third in the series and what was produced was as good as its predecessors and also featured horror legend Bela Lugosi as the Ygor, the blacksmith. This is a classic from the horror genre. And speaking of classics, this is one of only three jumbo window cards known from this title. This one has had some significant restoration work. The notes from MP Grading, who have inspected the poster, read as follows, "Heavily restored example in which the printed surface layer of the original poster has been lifted off and mounted to a new backing. The original poster had significant paper losses; majority of background and titles have been painted over in the restoration process, and there is a fair amount of colored pencil in the images. Scanned images were used by the restorer and applied to the original poster to avoid painting even large sections of missing paper." The poster now displays beautifully and is accompanied by the certificate from MP Grading. Good+ on Cardstock.
