Description

Son of Frankenstein (Universal, 1939). French Grande (47" X 63") Style B.
Artist Guy Berjab renders a terrifying Monster (Boris Karloff) throwing off his chains on this visually stunning French poster. Some consider it far superior to any of the American paper, and it is assuredly scarce to boot. This was the third of Universal's Frankenstein films and the last worthwhile entry before the series dissolved into sequels without the Karloff monster. At 51 years of age, Karloff was getting too old to deal with the eight hour makeup job by Jack Pierce. The previous two entries, Frankenstein (1931) and The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), were big hits. In this installment, Basil Rathbone portrays the son of the famed doctor and Bela Lugosi is Ygor, the demented hunchback. Professional restoration has touched up folds and crossfolds, and pinholes in the borders. There is still a nick visible near Lugosi's name. This piece presents a rare opportunity to own one of the best looking posters in monster film history! Very Fine on Linen.
