    Description

Phantom of the Opera (Universal, 1943). One Sheet (19.75" X 33.5") Style E. Claude Rains stars as the famous and horrifying Phantom, the much-feared fiend who haunts the Paris Opera House, in this 1943 re-make of the Universal/Lon Chaney horror classic. Offered here is a fascinating promotional one sheet, note in the original pressbook as "Style E", that features a layout of the famed Opera House, complete with twelve descriptive teasers that tell of the dastardly deeds which occurred in the various chambers. We offered another copy of this poster in our auction several years ago and we felt sure it was the only copy to have survived of this rare item. Lo and behold, we have been given a second one to be auctioned and this one has some separation at the center fold and some minor tears in the upper and lower borders. There is foxing throughout which seems to be indicative of this early glossy paper stock on which it is printed. This poster would be a perfect candidate for restoration. Fine-.
