Description
King Kong (RKO, R-1942). Half Sheet (22" X 28") Style A.This was a film of many firsts. Effects master Willis O'Brien and producer Merian C. Cooper created a method of matching stop-motion animation to live action. The first time that rear screen projection was used at RKO was the scene with Fay Wray and the T-Rex. It is possibly the first feature film to use a symphony score (although Bird of Paradise is also claimed for that distinction). The first and only film to debut at New York's largest theaters, the Roxy and Radio City Music Hall, bringing in a new record opening weekend of $90,000. Supposedly the first film to be re-released, and years later, the first ever commentary on the laserdisc release. Quite an accomplishment from one of the biggest film monsters of all time. There were pinholes in the corners, bends in the lower corners, a chip in the right border and upper left corner, small tears at the left corners, and minor lifts in the lower left corner. Touchup has been applied to the folds. Fine/Very Fine on Paper.
